I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Buttercream, which was salvaged from an ill-conceived summer Anthropologie rip-off sweater.
Since this yarn is a bit thicker than the Baby Cashmerino that the pattern calls for, I used slightly larger needles and knit the smallest size (newborn) even though I wanted more of a 6 month old size. Despite rushing headlong into this project with little to no planning, I think it all worked out!
This is a very cute little sweater, but I'm not sure I would recommend it without quite a bit of modification. For starters, there are so many ends to weave in! I think I spent longer on the finishing than I did on the actual knitting. Normally, I'm not one to argue with seams - I think they add a nice bit of structure to cardigans, but for babies, those seams just seem so... not soft! I think a seamless raglan cardigan, which this cardigan could easily be, would lend itself a bit more to the snugly yarn cloud of softness that babies should be clothed in.The buttons, though you can't see them too well due to my after-dark photo shoot, are mismatched shades of blue plastic buttons that I got off of EBay. Hooray for cheap lots of "vintage" buttons!
