We're celebrating a wonderfully lazy 4th of July at our house today. Sleeping in, knitting on the couch, doing some baking... it doesn't get much better than this.

Yesterday I scoped out our new local farmer's market. It's only been going on for three weeks now, so it's still pretty small, but it was packed with people and had a few good finds. I only had two things on my shopping list, and I manged to find both of them:

pattypan squash (which will be baked with some butter tomorrow...mmmm!)

and local strawberries (which I baked into an Italian Strawberry Tart.)

Oh, and you know how I said I've got to get better at making lists? I started a new knitting project that has nothing to do with the projects I listed yesterday.

It's the infamous DROPS jacket with 3/4 in sleeves that everyone in blogland made ages ago. I pulled out some Rowan Summer Tweed that I've had in my stash for a long time, purchased by my mom at a scandalously low price at a going-out-of-business sale awhile back. Swatching commenced last night (when I wasn't standing on my deck watching the extremely huge fireworks that some neighbors were illegally setting off, that is) and I've already got a goodly sized chunk of the back done. I was going to make a little summery cardigan sort of thing out of it, but it's just so stiff, I think it really wants to be more of a jacket. We'll see how it goes.
