Very little knitting

I haven't been posting too much lately because I have next to nothing to show you. There's been very little knitting progress made lately and we haven't done a whole lot to the house in the past few weeks. That doesn't mean we've just been working, although there has been a lot of that. We just haven't been very productive lately, I suppose. We also had our first house guests last weekend!

Pretty amazing that a 9 month old could get a pilot's license, huh? Our nephew, along with my brother and sister-in-law, flew in from Florida, and my cousin flew in from Montana. Our little house handled everyone really well, and it was so nice to be able to have everyone come stay with us - something we never could have done in the cottage!

Also in the news this past weekend: it was one year ago that Ben and I were married! It's hard to believe that a year has already gone by. We drove out to Chatham to revisit our honeymoon spot and to show our family a little more of the Cape. We wowed everyone with the giant gulls that we have around here:

And we grabbed a delicious lunch and the Wild Goose Tavern:

Now everyone has gone back home, and the house is quiet and empty. The cat is happy though. We have a few days of work and our normal routine this week before we take off for NYC this coming weekend! Hopefully I'll manage to cram some knitting time in somewhere. I'm woefully behind on my socks. Socktoberfest started off so promising...

Oops.

Did I say I was going to finish my Bayerische socks before I started the Socktoberfest Mystery Socks? Yeah, about that. I started the Mystery Socks. Spoiler alert: I'm 1/3 of the way into clue #2.

I've had a beautiful skein of Yarn Botanika sock yarn for quite some time now, and this seemed like the perfect project for it. These socks really are practically knitting themselves. Well, aside for all the time I spent untangling knots after our precious little feline beast decided to rearrange my yarn. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing. We've been watching lots of Mad Men around here, which is providing me with ample tv knitting time.

Don't worry, I'm still working on the Bayerische socks. It's all socks all the time!

Happy Socktoberfest!

It's finally here! That slight chill in the air can only mean one thing: Socktoberfest is upon us! I got a little head start this year, since I've already finished one of my toe-up Bayerische socks. This wonderful autumnal event has definitely given me the motivation to get that second sock done pronto!

I've got quite a way to go, but I'm still quite smitten with this pattern, so it's moving right along. My knitting group at the library starts up again tomorrow night too, so that will help.

Once I finish up these puppies, I'm moving on to the Through the Loops Mystery Sock (raverly link). It's all just so exciting.

In other news:
  • I still haven't taken a picture of my new and very adorable sewing machine. Mental note: do that tomorrow. Also think about going to fabric store to buy fusible interfacing. More on that later.
  • We got 6 inches of rain in two days last weekend and learned that we need a new roof NOW rather than next year. Ouch.
  • In honor of the VP debate tomorrow, let's look back, shall we?

(Unfortunately, I couldn't find the Phil Hartman version of Stockdale from Saturday Night Live. Does anyone remember that? It was hilarious! We had it on tape, and I used to watch it way too much for a 12 year old. Why was I so interested in the humor of election politics back then?)
